The 8 Strangest Reactions To Ted Kennedy’s Death

Thursday August 27, 2009 1:17 AM

There’s nothing funny about the death of Senator Ted Kennedy, but there’s something really funny about the way people have reacted to it. So we decided to take a break from studying politicians’ yearbook photos and figuring out which politicians need to be on reality TV to put together this list of The 8 Strangest Reactions To Ted Kennedy’s Death. Here’s a look at what people did when they heard a political icon had died …

8. This Guy Made A Hitler Remix Video
These days, you’re nobody until somebody makes a Hitler video about you (as these 15 Hitler parody videos prove). We know we shouldn’t be surprised that somebody remixed the now-classic clip from the movie “Downfall” to discuss the news of Kennedy’s death, but there’s just something odd about seeing Hitler get all pissed about the impact this could have on getting Obama’s health care plan passed. As Hitler says in the video, “The American people will do anything for the memory of a dead Kennedy. They put a man on the moon and cemented civil rights the last time this happened!” Oh, Hitler…

7. This Girl Threatened Her Twitter Followers
Any time you’re looking for strange reactions to landmark events, you can always count on Twitterers to deliver. For example:

6. This Guy Congratulated Himself  For Predicting Kennedy’s Death
Just when we thought Rush Limbaugh couldn’t do anything more ridiculous than, well, what he already does every day, he manages to surprise us by bragging about his prediction of Kennedy’s death a year ago.

5. This Paper Blamed It On The “Kennedy Curse”
We know that this isn’t a “real” headline, but The Onion just nails it so well that we felt like we had to include it.

4. This Guy Tried To Sell A Creepy “Teddy Bear”
It’s weird enough to be the guy trying to unload some creepy 1980 Ted Kennedy campaign teddy bears on eBay to begin with, but trying to do so a day after his death just seems, well, creepier.

3. This Senator Wrote An Original Song, Performed It, And Put It On Youtube
Apparently, Senator Orrin Hatch was so moved by his friend Kennedy’s death that he decided to pick up his guitar, write a song about America, record it, and post it on Youtube. The song, which you can check out below, “captures a small part of Ted’s legacy of service” according to Hatch. Surprisingly, it doesn’t include any lyrics about boozing and whoring.

2. This Guy Filmed A Bizarre Tribute In An Abandoned Apartment
We have no idea what’s going on this video, but our guess is that either this was made by an unusually politically engaged crack addict or this is some kind of performance art piece that makes no sense to anybody outside of Greenwich Village.

1. These Idiots Celebrated By Posting Messages On Sarah Palin’s Facebook Wall
We’ve seen the kind of idiots that post messages on Palin’s Facebook page, which is why it doesn’t come as a shock to us that people flocked to her page in the wake of Kennedy’s death to say stuff like, “Now if we could just talk God into taking Arlin Spector, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi America would be Eutopia!” and our personal favorite, “Good riddens.” Stay classy, Republicans, stay classy.

This list was written by Josh Spector, who can’t wait to see what kind of strange things people do when Newt Gingrich dies.
