Barack Obama announced today that Judge Sonia Sotomayor would be his nominee for Supreme Court. Here are 9 things we know about her.
1. She’s a lady.
2. She’s Puerto Rican. It’s like a toofer.
3. She’s from the Bronx. She’s like the Jennifer Lopez of activist judges.
4. If confirmed she would become the first Latina justice on the Supreme Court, and the second Ibero-American justice after Benjamin Cardozo. Whatever Ibero-American means. Probably something about Spain.
5. She ended the 1994 Major League Baseball strike. And she’s a lifelong Yankee fan.
6. She grew up in a housing project. She prefers to be called “Sonia From The Block.”
7. She used to date Puff Daddy. Wait. She never did. We keep getting Sotomayor and Jennifer Lopez confused. Until we saw the photo…
8. She went to Princeton and Yale. That’s a big difference between her and J-Lo. J-Lo probably went to some community college and dropped out to be a backup dancer.
9. She’s considered a political centrist… but probably only by Democrats.
