People with lower income aren't neccesarily worse people than those with high-paying jobs. Some don't get as many opportunities as others. Are people born into poverty lazy or bad decision makers? Is that really their fault that they don't get the same opportunities as the people who are lukcy enough to have educated parents that provide them with everything they need to attain a stable career? Is giving back to society and helping those less fortunate really a punishment??

I just don't want to support laggards through life by paying higher taxes, even though I'm just as human said laggard.

Equal rights isn't a one way street. "Treat all people fairly" somehow stops when we get to the amount we pay for citizenship in this country. It's an affect of the system - you never pay taxes - they are deducted before you get your hands on the money (as i think it should be, to ensure that the gov gets their money). But imagine if you physically had to pay that money out? We'd have a lot less people choosing political parties based on t shirts and TMZ. Or better yet - what if others expenses were based on your level of success in society, besides just income tax? What if a Subway sandwich costs $16 for your dad and his 300k salary, but only $2.50 for his college age daughter? What if the cost of gas was tied to your salary? What about clothing? What if when you went to order jager bombs on Friday night, you had to show a W2 to determine the price? Now how is paying for any of those things different that paying for governmental services? Why are some people treated unequally? Am I less American than the guy that makes 22k per year at Arby's? If not, why do you punish me for deciding to get educated and further the country, through innovation and knowledge, moreso than a roast beef slinger?

Going further:

If you are responsible, and DO THE RIGHT THING, and pay your bills on time, to keep your credit rating in good standing, you are rewarded, and given a better rate on a home, car, or education loan.

If you are responsible, and DO THE RIGHT THING, and drive carefully, drive sober, and keep your driving record clean, you are rewarded, and given a better rate on your car insurance.

If you are responsible, and DO THE RIGHT THING, and get good grades in high school, you are rewarded, and given grants and scholarships, to get into a better school, for less money, because you deserve it.

If you are responsible, and DO THE RIGHT THING, and perform well at work, you are rewarded, with promotions and better pay, because you deserve it.

Now...if you are responsible, and DO THE RIGHT THING, by staying out of trouble with the law, getting educated, performing well at work, furthering society through ambition and innovation, and all together being successful in life, why do the democrats think you should be punished, with a tax rate that is effectively double the lowest payers (those 50% that even do owe taxes)? Why should those that do the most for America pay the most to live here? Are we less human or less American than the guy "who made some bad decisions" and "needs a break"? In all the above examples, would you continue to DO THE RIGHT THING if you knew your credit rating/insurance rate/education transcript/scholarship was going to be redistributed to "those that need it most"? I don't think so. So why I ask, should i continue to work hard at work, get educated, and be a successful part of society, if my rewards for doing so will be redistributed to those that deserve it least?

Why do democrats insist on a tax on ambition, independence, responsibility, self-sufficiency, and success?

Equal rights isn't a one-way street, or a pillar of society that can be piecemealed.

Just asking for a little positive reinforcement from Captain Platitude.
