Chuck Grassley: AIG Execs Should Kill Themselves

Tuesday March 17, 2009 2:47 PM

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley went on the radio yesterday and suggested AIG execs should accept responsibility for AIG’s collapse by resigning or killing themselves. You know, whichever comes first.

“I suggest, you know, obviously, maybe they ought to be removed,” Grassley said. “But I would suggest the first thing that would make me feel a little bit better toward them if they’d follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say, I’m sorry, and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide. And in the case of the Japanese, they usually commit suicide before they make any apology.”

What is he talking about? Samurais? No, dude. It’s 2009. Does Iowa’s Chuck Grassley think Japan is run by Samurai warriors who hate being dishonored? Don’t get us wrong, AIG execs should totally be killed or whatever. But we don’t think the Japanese still kill themselves with swords like they used to.
